Meet Racheli: The Story Behind HOME CHEF

The Home Chef cookbook displayed against an orange background.

Cooking and baking do not have to be complicated.

For me, cooking and baking have always been about creating something delicious without making life in the kitchen stressful. Whether it is a simple weekday dinner, a Shabbos meal or preparing for Yom Tov, I love recipes that are easy to follow, use ingredients you already have at home and still feel special.

I believe you do not need to be a professional chef to make beautiful, delicious food. Sometimes all you need is a good recipe, a little inspiration and the confidence to try something new.

From my kitchen to yours

Over the years, I have collected and developed recipes that are practical, simple and family-friendly. Much of my cooking and baking is a blend of ideas from various cookbooks, personal tweaks and my own creations.

This is what inspired me to create HOME CHEF by Racheli — a cookbook filled with over 180 recipes for everyday cooking, Shabbos and Yom Tov. It really has a little bit of everything: from challah dough and homemade dips, to meat and poultry, salads, side dishes, desserts and baking. You will find recipes for your morning iced coffee, a delicious kokosh cake, homemade sorbet and so much more. Whether you are looking for something quick and simple or something a little more special, there is always something to discover.

The idea behind the cookbook is simple: to help you become your own Home Chef.

Simple. Quick. Delicious.

Each recipe comes with clear instructions and practical measurements, making both cooking and baking easier to follow.

I created this cookbook because the US market is very different from the European market. I wanted to make recipes more practical for those living in Europe by using measurements that are familiar to us here.

Food Equivalences

For all those around the globe who use grams rather than pounds, here is my practical food equivalence guide, something I find very useful to have in the kitchen:

  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar = 8 g
  • 1 packet of baking powder = 16 g
  • 1 cup sugar = ¾ cup honey
  • 1 packet fresh yeast (42 g) = 2 tbsp dry yeast
  • 2 ounces = ¼ cup = 56 g
  • 4 cups = 1 quart
  • 4 quarts = 1 gallon
  • 1 cup = ½ pint
  • 1 ounce = 28 g
  • 1 pound = 450 g
  • 1 stick of margarine = ½ cup oil = 113 g

Where to get HOME CHEF
